The Agricultural and Natural Resources program area is committed to providing research-based educational programs and technical assistance to farmers, commodity groups and agribusiness, and to providing horticultural and pest management assistance to the broader citizenship of West Virginia. Current Agricultural and Natural Resources initiatives include animal health and nutrition programs, youth livestock education, Junior Master Gardener, urban forestry, community gardening and youth gardening.
We primarily target the Kanawha, Putnam and Cabell County areas and have staff members housed in both Kanawha and Putnam locations. You can see some of our garden initiatives on display at locations such as Carroll Terrace in downtown Charleston and at the Barnett Center in Huntington. We are active at a variety of community events with our “Backyard Habitat” interactive educational exhibit for kids. You may have seen us at the Dogwood Festival, Ribfest or the WSAZ Home & Garden Show in Huntington, among other locations. The mission of the JMG program is "to grow good kids through igniting a passion for learning, success, and service." The program engages children in "hands-on" learning experiences that promote a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment, and cultivate the mind. 
Since 1988, this program has helped advance farming systems that are profitable, environmentally sound, and good for communities through a nationwide research and education grants program. 
Community Gardens are sites used for growing plants for food, fiber, herbs and flowers, which are shared and maintained by nearby residents.
